    Jeruiyq (The Promised Land)
 
 The film by director Slambek Tauyekel. The screenplay is based on Lavrentiy Son’s play named ‘Memory” dedicated to 60th year since Korean deportation. It is based on childhood memories of the playwright. The main antagonist – energetic head of kolkhoz (collective farm) Orynbai, played by actor Bulat Abdilmanov, has a prototype from the kolkhoz where Lavrentiy was born on 2.2.1941. “It was a person who always suffered for his good initiatives. But it’s thanks to such people like him, the deported people could survive and became a part of Kazakhstani people,” - said Lavrentiy Son. The film tells the story of those ethnicities that have been deported in hundreds thousands to Kazakhstan from Far East, Caucasus, Volga region, the story of their losses and their new life on Kazakh land.
