Experiencing Georgian Music:
Introduction to the Sound Culture of Rural
and Urban Georgia

presentation by Dr. George (Gia) Baghashvili, a scholar and a musician, and Tamar
(Tamuna) Tabatadze, a performer
Gia (George)
Baghashvili, PhD, is a well-known Georgian folklorist, ethnomusicologist and
cultural activist. He is General Director of the Artistic Union “Lomisi,”
a Georgian creative association. In 2000, he was awarded by Georgian State
Prize for creation of the Mengrelian songs potpourri. Dr. Baghashvili created
and led a few copyrighted folkloric TV and radio programs. He is the author of
numerous scholarly publications and participant of the regular Tbilisi
International Symposia on Traditional Polyphony.
Gia Baghashvili
will perform with his wife Tamuna, who is a connoisseur of Georgian traditional
dance culture. Their PowerPoint presentation will include also a valuable video
material.
The event will take place at SRH on Saturday, May 9, at 5-7pm.
