Last week, a group of global education leaders gathered at Asia Society in New York following the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. At an event co-hosted by Sarah Brown, executive chair of the Global Business Coalition for Education, participants discussed the importance of global citizenship in modern education.

This summer, New York-based filmmaker Amitabh Joshi returned to his native Nepal to document the aftermath of Kathmandu’s devastating April 25 earthquake. As the country struggled to recover, Joshi profiled independent artisans who, step by step, were repairing Nepal’s priceless cultural heritage sites. Joshi’s work is presented in two short documentary films available on Asia Blog.

In an appearance at Asia Society in New York, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key described the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as a “starting point” for opening trade more broadly across Asia. The discussion took place just days before the 12 participating countries reached a final agreement. Key also provided his outlook on the Chinese and Indian economies and the two countries’ engagement with regional trade organizations.
