PROGRAM> Post-Baccalaureate Program & Language Intensive at the Mangalam Research Center
Mangalam Research Center is pleased to announce the launch of its Post-Baccalaureate Program in Buddhist Languages and Translation Studies, the first of its kind. Students who are planning to go on to graduate school in Buddhist studies or related studies will be able to get the language training they need to enter a Ph.D. program. The program will also offer training in Buddhist Studies and in the tools and methodologies needed for successful graduate work.The Post-Baccalaureate Program will start June 27, 2016 with an 8-week language intensive in either Sanskrit or Tibetan. The intensive will prepare students to enter an intermediate-level (2nd year) language course in the fall. It can also be taken independently of the Post-Baccalaureate Program.
During the academic year, students will continue to focus on acquiring language skills through an intensive course in their chosen language. They will also take a Proseminar in Buddhist Studies and a Post-Baccalaureate Seminar that focuses on intensive critical reading and writing. Together, these courses will give students the knowledge and skills they need to research and write papers of scholarly quality.
The syllabus for the Post-Baccalaureate Program was designed by Luis Gómez, MRC’s academic director, in consultation with our Board of Advisors. Dr. Gómez and other established scholars will participate in the program through intensive workshops that supplement the ongoing courses.
The deadline for applications is April 30, 2016. Limited financial assistance is available.
