Buddhist Studies

As UCLA students take final exams and graduate this week, we congratulate them on their achievements, and our thoughts are also with the family, friends, colleagues, and students of Prof. William Klug who lost his life on campus last week.

CBS will be not host any events over the summer, but we encourage everyone in LA to visit the Getty Center to view the Cave Temples of Dunhuang: Buddhist Art on China’s Silk Road, open now through September 4. UCLA is very proud to have helped to organize and sponsor a special symposium on the caves in May.

There will also be two related talks at the Getty:

Sunday, June 26, 4:00 PM
Join Stanford University Buddhist Studies Professor, John Kieschnick, of The Robert H.N. Ho Foundation for a discussion on the concepts of karma and rebirth into China.

Sunday, July 24 , 4:00 PM
Professor of history at Yale University, Valerie Hansen, discusses the contents of the Library Cave (Cave 17), which was sealed in the year 1000.

Reserve your free tickets today by visiting the Getty website or calling 310.440.7300.

Have a great summer!

Best,
CBS Staff
