Asia Society's Center on U.S.-China Relations and UC San Diego's 21st Century China Center last week released a report by a task force of 20 former U.S. government officials, scholars, and think tank researchers on how President Donald Trump can best approach the biggest challenges in the U.S.-China relationship. In this video, co-chair of the report Orville Schell describes the six most urgent recommendations.

In an interview with Asia Blog, Syracuse University Professor James Steinberg discusses the contemporary relationship between China, North Korea, and the United States and the limited options for dealing with the crisis.

In the new novel Lotus, Chinese author Zhang Lijia portrays a rural migrant woman who winds up working the world’s oldest profession in an urban massage parlor. Though the novel is fiction, Zhang conducted research by spending time with over 100 real life women working in China’s massive sex industry. In an interview with Asia Blog, she described how rural women end up in this profession, what they’re up against, and why it’s “not just total misery.”
