COMMENTS> IABS 18th Congress, August 20-25, University of Toronto

by Charles Muller
Dear Colleagues,
The International Association of Buddhist Studies (IABS) held its eighteenth congress at the University of Toronto on August 20-25. It was a wonderful conference, attracting over 447 delegates from around the world. I believe I speak for all attendees in saying that the conference hosts did a superb job in managing the event, with everything running quite smoothly--so much thanks should be given to convener Christoff Emmrich, academic coordinator Anthony Scott, and their dedicated team. On the final day of the conference it was announced that the next IABS will be hosted by Seoul National University in 2020. We are very much looking forward to enjoying warm Korean hospitality and delicious food then!
Other statistic regarding the Toronto IABS include:
Panels: 44
Sections: 18
Papers: 416
Delegates: 447
Institutions: 251
Countries: 26
Project Presentations and Workshops: 9
Exhibitions/Sponsors: 12/3

The program book, listing all presentations and other events, can be downloaded here.

Regards,
Chuck

Dear Elizabeth,
Many thanks to you and other colleagues for pointing this out. I'm not sure why that page ended up being password protected with our intranet, but here is a link to the broader project page:
https://www.politics.ox.ac.uk/research-projects/understanding-buddhist-nationalism-in-myanmar-religion-gender-identity-and-conflict-in-a-political-transition.html
At the bottom should be a link to the CFP.
Many thanks,
Matt Walton
