Avalokiteshvara (Sanskrit) is a Bodhisattva (compassionate being), who embodies the compassion of all enlightened beings. This Bodhisattva is portrayed in various Asian cultures as either male or female.

In Tibetan Buddhism, Avalokiteshvara is known as Chenrezig; in Chinese Buddhism, Guanyin; in Japanese, Kannon; in Cambodian, Lokesvarik.

For the benefit of both living and deceased sentient beings, the venerable monks will perform this ritual in the form of the Four Armed Chenrezig. It is an exceptionally powerful ceremony, believed to eliminate negativities, especially when performed for those who are deceased.

Once the ritual is done, it is believed that they will be reborn as higher beings, manifesting joy, peace, and prosperity in the next life. Therefore, if anyone would like to bring the names and/or photos of your beloved family and friends that are deceased, the monks will dedicate their prayers especially for them.

The mantra of Avalokiteshvara  or Chenrezig is: “Om Mani Padme Hum”, which you can chant silently while the venerable monks perform the ritual.
